Containers, UK Terrestrial TV

Transcool Systems offer two types of container – ISO Static Containers and ISO Mobile Containers. We design, deliver and install fully-kitted out bespoke containers to meet the individual requirements of our clients. And this is exactly what we provided recently for a UK terrestrial TV client.

The client required multiple mobile containers, fitted onto bespoke trailer units, to house terrestrial TV equipment, to be transported to main transmitter stations all over the UK. These units would continue broadcasting terrestrial analogue TV whilst Transcool Systems removed the fixed analogue broadcast equipment, to make way for the new digital terrestrial services that Transcool Systems Ltd were installing as part of the UK-wide project.

Each container was a fully-functioning analogue broadcast transmitting system, fitted out with transmission, combining, programme feed and telemetry equipment. Each unit, once on site, would be connected to the main transmitter station for mains power and RF feeder, via the interface points on our units.

Each unit was installed with 100% redundancy systems and auto changeover for the mains power, equipment cooling and environmental cooling. The environmental cooling utilised a fully-automatic fresh air cooling with air-conditioning auto switchover, dependent on the internal environmental temperatures.

The containers were designed with removable access stairs and anti-slip flooring for ease of access. We also equipped the containers with RF Feeder reels and power hook-up cables on specialist designed ‘A’ frames to enable easy wrap-up for deployment and transportation.

Once the units were built in our factory, we carried out our standard Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at full power into RF Test Loads to run the transmitting, power and cooling systems to their maximum.

After the success of the project we won a further contract with this client to modify some of these units into digital transmitter systems for disaster recovery, to allow for quick re-instatement of services anywhere in the country should a main station go down.
