Switched on – the pitfalls of technology in the cockpit

Switched on - the pitfalls of technology in the cockpitModern technology dictates that unless we try very hard to avoid it, someone will always be able to get in touch with us, wherever we are.

This constant stream of data while in the driving seat puts temptation in the way of drivers and, with dark mornings and nights closing in, it means severe risks to concentration levels and productivity, especially where long distance driving is involved.

At Transcool Systems our engineers travel to some of the most far flung locations to implement quality mechanical and electrical engineering solutions – these destinations range from the top of mountains to remote offshore islands.

In order to make travel to these locations as stress free as possible, we try to allocate plenty of time for the journey and also aim to arrange accommodation near the sites that offer comfort and food in the same place.

To reduce distractions to our drivers when on the road, we have introduced a “no call” policy from the office for when engineers are travelling, using messaging only for urgent information that they can read when they have stopped and it is safe and legal to do so. In addition, we have strict policies in place to ensure that mobile phones are not used while driving.

Other ways to combat driving distractions

According to the UK Department for Transport, you are four times more likely to be in a crash if you use your phone while driving. It’s therefore easy to see why companies suggest phone blocking apps and devices which can help drivers stay focused, preventing distraction from calls, texts or using the internet while the car is moving.

According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) sat navs can also cause a problem when not used correctly. While they can help drivers plan routes and prevent last minute lane changes or hesitation, they can also distract the driver and increase the risk of an accident. It is therefore important that drivers understand how best to use their sat nav and learn not to use it when it might be dangerous to do so.

You’re in safe hands

In the same way that car technology can be a distraction to drivers, business owners and managers can often become distracted from their work by the need to be in driving seat for engineering projects.

At Transcool Systems, not only do we look to reduce the stress on our drivers, but we can take the added stress off our customers’ hands too, allowing them to focus on their business, by offering tailored engineering projects which are completely covered from start to finish.

We pride ourself on being able to offer the full design, management, engineering, and implementation of quality industrial, electrical and mechanical engineering projects within a broad range of industries, meeting tight budgets and timescales, in addition to offering the benefit of engineering personnel with many years of experience.

Transcool Systems specialise in providing bespoke mechanical and electrical solutions for a wide range of unique problems, overcoming onsite restrictions and limitations to achieve our goals.
